Salon/Saloon

One of the definitions of salon is a place for hairdressing or beauty treatments: a commercial establishment where hairdressers or beauticians work, sometimes part of a larger store or a hotel. 

A saloon is a drinking place: a commercial establishment serving alcoholic drinks to the general public or a type of car (sedan) e.g. a Toyota Corolla saloon car - just to describe the car's shape.

Pay close attention to the "o" in these two words as that is what makes the difference in their pronunciations. Saloon is pronounced with the double "o" sounding "u" while the o in salon pronounces /səˈlɒn/ just as it is written.
